Deep Ellum Art Part 2

Updated: Jul 18

Deep Ellum is one of the most eclectic, historic, and famous parts of Dallas. It's rich with music and art history. Everywhere you turn you see murals: random murals, Dallas' iconic skyline murals, Dallas landmark murals, a whole alley way of murals dedicated to blues musicians, etc. I mean how cool is it that the Deep Ellum Arts Co commissioned artists to paint 42 murals around the area? And that's not all that's there - there is so much more! So much so, that I had to break the Deep Ellum blog post into 4️⃣ different posts! Yes, 4️⃣, so here is blog post 2️⃣! The murals in Deep Ellum hold a special place in my heart - my husband and I got our engagement pictures done in here! They even have several small businesses (and a few bigger ones), restaurants, dessert shops, 7 music venues, plus a bowling alley AND a place where you can do a little batting practice for baseball that has a bar inside. Anything you could want Deep Ellum has it: history ✅ art ✅ music ✅ food ✅ shopping ✅. You won't be bored when you ✅ this place out!

The Art

The murals here are EVERYTHING and are literally everywhere you turn! Each time I have gone down to Deep Ellum I spent 2+ hours taking pictures and get 3+ miles of walking in. It can be over stimulating but hey, I got you! Fair warning, for most of these murals you gotta get there early or go during a week day or you'll get a ton of murals with cars parked in front.

Like I said before - there is art literally everywhere you look and turn. So I'll tackle all the murals by taking it street by street starting from N Good Latimer Expy. The second set of Murals are located on Commerce St. Again, I'll start at Good Latimer Expy and move down Commerce St.

Saving Big Tex Mural

Saving Big Tex Mural

Mance Lipscomb who's real name ids Beau De Glen Lipscomb is on the left. Mance was given the name Mance short for emancipation by a family friend. When & Where?

Deep Ellum has always had a rougher vibe but has been trying to make a come back for several years now. The come back is going fairly strong especially now that COVID has taken a back seat. The area, especially on the weekends is packed and hard to find parking. If you go there early during the day or on Sunday mornings its fairly easy to find parking and walk around. If you decide to go early or stay late bring a buddy; this is still downtown Dallas and can give off a sketchy vibe if you aren't used to the area.

Address:

Deep Ellum takes up the geographical areas of Elm St, Main St, Commerce St, and Canton St intersecting with Good Latimer Expy, Henry St, Crowdus St, Malcolm X Blvd, Walton St, all the way to the DART Rail.

Transportation

There is a DART Station is conveniently located just outside of Deep Ellum & is called The Deep Ellum Station. You can also take the DART to the Baylor Station and walk a few blocks to Deep Ellum.
