Uptown is a unique area of Dallas that has art and murals sprinkled everywhere. Several of the pieces are not within walking distance unless you really feel like getting your step in for the day. On the bright side there is parking near most of the art.
The Art
The first set of murals are a part of parking garage # 1 for the West Village Shopping Center. The shopping center is on the north side of Uptown as you head towards I-75. The murals face Center Drive in between Newman and Thompson
This first set of murals are located in garage # 1. As you're making way to the parking garage from Cole or McKinney Ave and turn onto Thompson or Newman St from there you will want to look for Center Dr that offers limited parking for the following shops: Kittenish, MKT, Face Haus, UNTUCKit, Allen Edmonds, etc. and access to the main parking garage.
Super Deluxe Mural
Super Deluxe is a geometric masterpiece located by parking garage #1 for the West Village Shopping Center. This is probably the most Instagrammed spot in all of Uptown. And that's saying something... since there's murals in every nook and cranny of Uptown.
Artist(s): Ricardo Paniagua Dallas artist who specifically deals with geometric shapes! (website: Ricardo Paniagua)
Rainbow Scribble Mural
These colorful X's and O's go perfectly with the Super Deluxe Mural next to it -creating a nice balance of geometric & organic! The only downside of this mural is the trash can and railing in front of it. But you can definitely get creative when taking your pictures to avoid those.
Artist(s): Eric Mancini, originally from Denton, he grew to fame using his unique style of X's & O's in his art work. SInce then he has branched out to different forms and styles of art. He believes, "Opportunity is all around, you just have to go out there and get it. If you want to be an artist, just go be an artist and don’t worry about the rest." Breakthrough & Be Bold Mural
These fashionistas fit in perfectly with the West Village Shopping Center vibe with all the great shopping and dining. I love the pop of hot pink against the silhouetted figures. Beach Balls Mural
The beach balls make me want to teleport to a beach as I write this blog post. The baby blue is the perfect shade to portray the clear blue waters of the beach (unless its a Texas beach, IYKYK). Love the 3 primary colors being used in the beach balls! So, who's up for going to the beach now? Raise your hand!
Artist(s): Mione Plant left her job in engineering to become a full time artist. She strategically uses the strengths of the right and left brain to create her artwork. That resonates through her artwork. (website: Mione Plant instagram: @mioneplant)

What does Uptown not have to offer? A never ending list of art, restaurants, coffee shops, boutique workout clubs, shopping, a movie theatre, salons & spas, and beautiful scenery. Uptown has a quaint feels yet its in the middle of Downtown Dallas. The Katy Trail is one of the prime destinations of Uptown - it is always bustling from dusk to dawn! Click here for all trail heads and other Katy Trail information.
Restaurants
There are are almost too places to eat in Uptown to count! Every corner or street you head down you run into one! Obviously the restaurants I mentioned above are all great places to check out, Cutie Pies, The Standard Pour, Mutts Catina, and The Playground Bar! Theres also, The Rustic, which is co-owned by country singer, Pat Green. They have great food and live music! Breadwinners is a great place to check out of breakfast, lunch, and dinner! There are countless options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner! The Conservatory, The Original Pancake House, Lucky's Cafe, Urban Donuts, or Good Graces are great places for breakfast. Village Burger Bar, The Henry, Manny's Tex Mex, Katy Trail Ice House, Nick & Sam's, Tequila Social, Capitol Grille, Moxies, Mexican Sugar, Sammy's BBQ, Hunky's Old Fashion Hamburgers. Shopping
Shopping, where do I begin? If you thought there were a ton of restaurants well the shopping list is just as long! Where to begin? Kendra Scott, Kittenish, Francescas, Krewe, Suitsupply, y&i clothing to name a few!
When & Where?
The best time/day to go Uptown would be to go during the weekday but will get crowded around the eating hours of the day. Luckily, during the week day the lunch time crowd is employees from surrounding office buildings so parking shouldn't be as bad. There are several parking garages/lot in the area. They have tried to keep up with growth of the area by adding these new parking additions. I felt completely safe walking around taking pictures during the day & evening. There were plenty of people out and about going to restaurants, walking their dogs, running, etc.
Address:
3699 McKinney Ave, Dallas, TX 75204
Transportation
Uptown has a DART Rail station that will connect you to other parts of Dallas County. It is on the outskirts of Uptown by Mutts Cantina & The Rustic but its not a bad walk to central Uptown. There are also several DART bus stops through out Uptown. Uptown is unique because they have a Trolley/Streetcar that goes through out the area. Like you've been transported to San Francisco without having to fly! You can catch the trolley at the Dart Rail station mentioned above and even watch it turn around on the tracks! Click here for bus, rail, and trolley/streetcar routes and schedules.
Parking
There are several parking lots, garages, and street parking throughout Uptown. The garages are provided by the West Village Shopping Center. Some parking lots are transitioning into paid parking so make sure to pay attention if you need to pay or not. Those lots are using the ParkMobile Parking App. The app is very user friendly and fairly inexpensive considering you parking downtown. Its essentially a parking meter but on your phone, it's super convenient. It will even send you a notification letting you know your time is almost up and asks if you want to add more money/time.
Lots
The main parking garage that is in the heart of The Village shopping center. In between McKinney & Cole Ave, you can gain access to the garage from Thompson or Newman St.
Great parking for if you feel adventurous and want to take the Katy Trail. If you park here to look at the murals underneath the Katy Trail bridges do NOT take the actual trail. Not all the bridges allow you to get off the trail to go down to street level. Best thing you can do is walk along Turtle Creek Blvd to the street the mural you want is on.
